Outside the wall of the old city of Jerusalem in
29AD our world was forever changed. A Roman soldier took an olive tree stake
and nailed the hands and feet of whom he thought to be a criminal worthy of
death. Little did that soldier know that he was in fact piercing the flesh
of God Himself. Jesus Christ of Nazareth was the God of eternity come to
live in a human body, and now we seek to know the original format left by
Jesus to His disciples. We ask only "What did Jesus say?" We ask only "What
did Jesus command?" We ask, "What did His disciples teach?"
Church of Champions is a Bible-based church. We’re Bible-based in that we
seek to base all of our beliefs and our lifestyle on explicit passages of
the Bible or on biblical principles. Based on Scripture, we believe the
following . . .
The Bible, the Scriptures, both Old and New Testaments, are the inspired
Word of God without error in the original writings, the complete revelation
of His will for the salvation of men, and the divine and final authority for
all Christian faith and life.
About God - There is one God, Creator of
all things, infinitely perfect, and existing in three Manifestations:
Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
About Jesus Christ - Jesus Christ is
true God and true man, having been conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of
the Virgin Mary. He died on the cross, the complete and final sacrifice for
our sins according to the Scriptures. Further, He arose bodily from the
dead, ascended into heaven, soon to return as King of Kings and Lord of
Lords.
About The Holy Spirit - The ministry of
the Holy Spirit is to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ and during this age, to
convict men of sin, regenerate the believing sinner, indwell, guide,
instruct, and empower the believer for Godly living and service.
About Man - Man was created in the image
of God but fell into sin and is therefore lost. Only through regeneration by
the Holy Spirit can salvation and spiritual life be obtained.
About the Gospel
The saving gospel is the good news that Jesus died for our sins, was buried,
and rose again. We can identify with the gospel by repentance (death to
sin), water baptism (burial), and receiving the gift of the Holy Spirit
(resurrection)
About Sin and Salvation
Everyone has sinned and needs salvation. Salvation comes by grace through
faith based on the atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ. Champions believe that
the blood of Jesus Christ atones for our sins and iniquity. It is through
His shed blood that we are saved, healed and set free from bondage and the
forces of darkness.
About Christian Living
We believe that every believer must have a personal and intimate
relationship with Jesus Christ, for apart from Him we can do nothing. Each
person has a ministry from God that no one else can fill. We are to
instruct, teach, exhort, and admonish believers in the ways of God, and as
Christians we are to love God and others. We should live a holy life
inwardly and outwardly, and worship God joyfully.
About Life Change
We believe that life-change happens best through relationships, and that
followers of Christ should manifest authenticity and strive for continuous
spiritual growth.
About People
We believe that all people matter to God, and therefore they ought to matter
to the church
About Healing
We believe that it is God's will to heal and deliver His people today as He
did in the days of the first Apostles. It is by the stripes of Jesus that we
are healed, delivered and made whole. We have authority over sickness,
disease, demons, curses, and every circumstance in life.
About The Return of Jesus Christ - The
personal, imminent return of our Lord Jesus Christ is our hope and has a
vital bearing on the personal life and service of the believer.
About Future Events - There will be a
bodily resurrection of all the dead; of the believer to everlasting
blessedness and joy with the Lord, and of the unbeliever to judgment and
everlasting conscious punishment.
About The Church - The true Church is
composed of all such persons, who through saving faith in Jesus Christ have
been regenerated by the Holy Spirit and are united together in the body of
Christ. We believe that the church should be culturally relevant while
remaining doctrinally pure
About Water Baptism - Water baptism is
by immersion, soon after believing that Christ is our Savior through the
acknowledgement of our sinful past and realizing that our only hope is in
Him. It is a testimony of death to sin and resurrection to a new life.
About The Lord's Supper - a memorial
service, setting forth in sacred and symbolic manner the death of the Lord
Jesus Christ; all true believers and only believers should share in it.
Since Jesus loves his whole church we try to maintain an
attitude exemplified and taught in the Scripture:
-
in essentials,
unity
-
in
non-essentials, liberty
-
in all things,
charity
